TRQ Advisors, formed in 2013, helps clients identify and capture incremental sources of investment performance. Combining experience in systematic asset management and strategy consulting, TRQ delivers insight and practical solutions to problems ranging from performance attribution and idea generation, to systematic product development such as alpha capture and “smart alpha” funds.
Recent assignments include product development projects for a large family office and a global asset manager, creating new products based on HF positions through data transparency and attribution analysis. TRQ also developed and beta-tested an electronic "best ideas"-sharing platform, demonstrating how to capture investable ideas from emerging hedge fund managers and deliver alpha unconstrained by limitations of traditional manager selection and due diligence processes.
Matt Dearth is the founder of TRQ Advisors. Before founding TRQ, Matt was a member of the investment team and Head of Broker Relations at Marshall Wace North America LP, the US arm of multi-billion dollar fund manager Marshall Wace. As one of the founding employees in 2004, Matt helped introduce their proprietary investment strategy to the Americas. He was responsible for sourcing and vetting institutional salespeople to participate in a “best ideas”- driven investment process, managing the performance measurement and incentives system for brokers, and presenting to investing clients and prospects.
Prior to Marshall Wace, Matt spent two years at McLagan Partners, a boutique financial services consultancy, building and selling a pay and performance benchmarking platform. Previously he worked in the Equities Division of Goldman Sachs as head of the Business Analysis and Strategy team. Prior to Goldman Sachs, Matt was a Senior Associate at strategy consulting firm Booz Allen & Hamilton (Financial & Health Services), and a product analyst in the commercial lines division of Great American Insurance Co.
Matt received a Bachelors of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering & Operations Research) from Princeton University in 1992 and a Master’s of Business Administration from the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1996.
For eight years (including four years as Vice Chairman) Matt served on the Board of Directors of Worldfund, a leading NGO delivering world-class training programs to public school teachers and principals in Latin America. He has served on the Board or as a Senior Advisor to two fintech companies, SciVantage and Replication Technologies. Currently Matt is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Business at Singapore Management University where he teaches an MBA-level elective course in Asset Management.
Matt and his family relocated to Singapore in 2015. He is an avid (though not fast) distance runner, enjoys wine tasting with friends, and speaks nearly fluent Spanish.
